Abstract

1,134,699. Converter linings. QUIGLEY CO. Inc. 29 Dec., 1965 [7 Jan., 1965], No. 55062/65. Heading F4B. The life of the lining of a metallurgical converter is prolonged by applying further refractory in layers, allowing each layer to fuse with the preceding layer and dry at the operating temperature of the converter at intervals during a period in which the converter is operated for substantially less than the normal number of heats per day, operating the converter normally for a second period, and for the remaining period of the lining life, operating the converter for slightly less than the normal number of heats per day, and repairing and recoating the lining at intervals during this final period. By suitably staggering the operations, a substantially constant number of heats per day may be treated in three converters in spite of the necessity for relining.
