Abstract
1,134,329. 3-Arylamino-3-alkoxy-acrylates; 3 - arylamino - 2 - pyrazoline - 5 - one. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 24 Feb., 1966 [24 Feb., 1965], No. 8100/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C4] 3-Arylamino-acrylates of the formula wherein R represents an optionally substituted aryl group or a heterocyclic aryl group and R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are alkyl groups, are prepared by reacting an acrylate of the formula wherein X is an acid anion and n is 1 or 0, with an arylamine of the formula RNH 2 or RNH 2 .HX. The 3-arylamino-acrylates may be reacted with a hydrazine R<SP>1</SP>NH.NH 2 , if necessary in the presence of a cyclization agent to yield a pyrazolinone of the formula where R 1 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group. The reaction of the arylamine and the acrylate is preferably effected at elevated temperatures in the presence of a solvent. Suitable cyclisation agents for the subsequent reaction with the hydrazine are alkali metal carbonates, hydroxides and alkoxide, alkaline earth metal hydroxides or alkoxides or organic acids. Examples relate to the preparation of a number of compounds in some of which the aryl group R is substituted, e.g. by chloro, cyano, carboxy, nitro, acetamido, sulpho, sulphamoyl and phenylazo (see Division C4) groups.
