Abstract

1,134,313. Extruding tubes. STAHL UND ROHRENWERK REISHOLZ G.m.b.H. 6 June, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 26057/67. Heading B3P. A hollow billet 11 is extruded between a die 2 and a floating mandrel 7, the latter has a truncated tapered portion 9 with a taper angle less than 10 degrees merging into a uniform section portion 6. The floating mandrel is maintained in position by the axial force components produced due to the tapered entry surface 3 of the die. The mandrel and die are of rectangular or preferably circular crosssection and are made of sintered cemented carbide. Billet container 1 is in sections and both the container and die are inductively heated. Once extrusion has commenced the heating may be shut off. A number of steel billets 11 may be extruded in succession and in a protective atmosphere to form a continuous tube. Fresh billets are charged through air locks.
