A slipper of the mule type is made by cutting a blank from sheet or strip material e.g. heavy paper, the blank having a sole portion 10 and two outwardly directed ear portions 11, 12, and then folding the ears 11, 12 into overlapping relationship and joining them to form the mule. The ears 11, 12 are joined together by passing a tongue 15 formed in one ear 12 under a strap 14 formed by two slits in the other ear 11.
