Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A process for forming cellular polymeric material laminated to a woven or felted material comprises forming a layer of a gelled plastisol containing a polymeric material and a blowing agent and laminating this on to the plastisol layer of a plastisol-backed woven or felted material and heating the gelled layer of plastisol and the plastisol layer of the plastisolbacked woven or felted material to a temperature at which the blowing agent is decomposed and the plastisols are cured the heating being effected by the use of electrostatic vibrations having a frequency in the radio range. The layer of gelled plastisol may be formed by a process comprising applying a plastisol containing a blowing agent to a carrier material such as an endless silicone rubber-glass reinforced belt and heating the plastisol to a temperature at which it gells, but below the temperature at which the blowing agent decomposes, the heating being effected in an oven or by the use of electrostatic vibrations in the radio range. The layer is then laminated to a plastisolbacked fabric, such as a carpet, the polymers may comprise polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl alcohol, and vinylidene chloride. Numerous blowing agents are specified.
