Abstract

1,134,113. Coated glass fabrics. AGEMO S.A. 21 Dec., 1965 [4 Aug., 1965], No. 54096/65. Heading B2E. A covering material comprises a fabric composed mainly of glass fibre, a layer cf a detergent-resistant substantially transparent synthetic plastics material on one face of the fabric, and a priming layer applied to the other face of the fabric, the priming layer being composed of a synthetic plastics material mixed with an amount of silica such that the weight of silica is substantially higher than the weight of synthetic plastics material in the priming layer. The material may be produced by applying to one face of a fabric composed mainly of glass fibre a layer of a detergent resistant substantially transparent synthetic plastics material, and applying to the other face of the fabric a priming layer composed of a synthetic plastics material mixed with an amount of silica which exceeds the weight of the synthetic plastics material in the priming layer. The mixture for the priming layer may contain an amount of colouring matter which becomes visible at the said one face of the coated fabric. The layer applied to the said one face may comprise a vinyl copolymer resin, or an acrylic copolymer resin, or nitrocellulose, all containing a proportion of solids, or casein. The priming layer may comprise vinyl acetate copolymer or an acrylic resin containing solids. The weight of the silica in the priming layer may be at least 200% of the weight of the synthetic plastics material in the priming layer.
