Abstract

1,133,845. Pharmaceutical preparations containing dextran and cellulose ethers. UPJOHN CO. 25 March, 1966 [29 April, 1965], No. 13337/66. Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] Pharmaceutical compositions for reducing blood cholesterol levels comprise an aminoethyl, diethylaminoethyl, p-amino benzyl, or guanidoethyl ether of dextran or cellulose and an edible pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may also include unsaturated fatty acids e.g. linoleic acid, linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, edible vegetable oils e.g. corn oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, linseed oil; inhibitors of cholesterol synthesis e.g. nafoxidine hydrochloride, choleretic agents e.g. tocamphyl, florantyrone, and surfactants e.g. dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate, or a propylene oxidepropylene glycol condensate. The compositions may be administered orally in conventional oral dosage unit forms.
