Abstract

1,133,477. Switches held set and freed mechanically. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 18 March, 1966 [1 April, 1965], No. 12173/66. Heading H1N. Depression of a push-button 100 and drive cylinder 22 causes downward movement of a cam actuator 28, with fingers 29 riding on ramps 66 of a rotatable cam member 50, and consequential rotation and downward movement of the cam member 50, and release of button 100 allows a spring 31 to restore cam actuator 28 while cam action occurs between ramp 66 of cam member 50 and inwardly projecting guide surfaces 21 on the upper portion 18 of insulating cylinder 17 such that cam member 50 continues its rotation until surfaces 21 abut cam protrusions 66a and the member 50 is retained in its lower position against the pressure of a spring 42. This downward movement of cam member 50 causes movement of a moving contact assembly 32 such that spring contact fingers 35 thereon move relatively to fixed contacts such as 51, 52, 53, in grooves 47, 48, 49, Fig. 3 (not shown), of an insulating member 45. A second depression of button 100 causes actuator fingers 29 to engage protrusions 66a and rotate cam member 50 until fingers 29 fall into slots 65 between ramps 66, when cam member 50 is released and, upon release of button 100, the cam member 50 and cam actuator 28 assume their original positions, Fig. 1, and contact assembly 32 assumes its original position, under the force of springs 31, 42, wherein guide surfaces 21 are in the slots 65. The contacts 51, 52, 53, have different lengths and positions on the member 45 to provide for normally open, continuously engaged, or normally closed contacts. The contact fingers 35 are arranged in sets of three, or as required, see Fig. 3 (not shown). A circuit is completed to a lamp 74 when button 100 is actuated, a centre lamp terminal 76 making contact through a pin 71, spring 72, pin 73 and spring 43 with a terminal pin 85 in member 45, while shell terminal 75 of lamp 74 is in contact via drive plunger cup 23, spring 31, cam actuator 28, eyelet 37 and spring 42 with a terminal pin 84. Insulating base member 45 is supported on a header assembly 55 having pins 56, Fig. 4 (not shown) connected via wires 59 with contacts 51, 52, 53, and the pins 56 are received in a socket receptacle 57 which is insertable in plug-in printed circuit board assemblies (not shown). Different aspects of the switch are claimed in the present Specification and in Specification 1,133,478.
