Abstract

1,133,286. Textile treating apparatus. VEPA A.G. 18 April, 1967 [6 May, 1966; 24 May, 1966], No. 17647/67. Heading D1L. A process for the treatment e.g. shrinking, dyeing, washing, bleaching, setting, or finishing of twisted yarn or other filament-like material comprises subjecting the filaments to several successive treatment processes in the form of a group of a plurality of said filaments, the group being in a longitudinally slack condition during at least one of the said treatment processes. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a bobbin stand, a comb-guide for the orderly parallel feeding of the filaments, at least one impregnating or printing device, means for combining the filaments into a bundle, a steaming chamber a plurality of sieve drum bowls with squeezers behind each, a sieve drum dryer, at least one device correlated to one of the afore-mentioned units for laying the filament bundle in a longitudinally slack manner, a device separating the bundle into individual filaments and feeding them to a winding device. The filaments are preferably combined as by twisting, knitting, weaving or wrapping and the bundle is separated as by untwisting or unwrapping. The filament bundle may be temporarily stored between the processing units. The filament bundle is preferably rendered longitudinally slack by being laid in a zig-zag like or flat coiled fashion on a conveyor. The filaments are preferably yarns of hydrophobic textile fibres or of fibre blends containing hydrophobic textile fibres.
