Abstract
1,211,305. Finishing fabrics. NIPBON RAYON K.K. 29 Feb., 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 9966/68. Heading D1S. Elasticity is imparted in the warp and weft directions to a loosely woven textile fabric composed of animal or thermoplastics yarns by scouring the fabric under a tension of from 20 to 80 Kg. per m. in its warp direction so that the fabric is shrunk in its weft direction, preferably by 20 to 40%, shrinking the fabric by 5 to 40% in its warp direction without further shrinking in the weft direction and fixing the shrunk fabric. Suitable thermoplastic yarns include filamentary yarns and staple fibre yarns having a thermoplastic nature and blended yarns composed of thermoplastic fibres or filaments and natural or regenerated fibres or filaments, e.g. blended spun yarns, paralleled yarns in which untwisted yarns are disposed parallel to each other and double-twist yarns. Examples specify 100% woollen yarns or blended spun yarns of 65 % copolymerized polyether-ester fibres or nylon fibres and 35% viscose rayon fibres or 50% copolymerized polyether-ester fibres and 50% wool fibres. As shown, a fabric F passes over a guide 1, between rollers 2, through a scouring bath 3, through water in a washer tank 4, through a roller-type drier 5 and between rollers 6 which rotate at a faster speed than the rollers 2 to apply a tension of 20-80 Kg. per m. to the fabric. The fabric may be dyed, soaped and/or sheared between the rollers 6 and a rollertype drier 7. After passing between rollers 8, the fabric is padded with a resin or setting agent in a bath 9 and dried in a roller-type drier 10 so as to retain a suitable water content. The fabric passes between rollers 11 the speed of which may be adjusted to tension the fabric between the rollers 8, 11, around tension bars 12, 13, 14 and through a shrinking apparatus comprising a rotatable heated drum 15 to heat set the fabric and around a part of the periphery of which a rubber belt 16 passes, a rubber roller or a press roller 17 having a rubber or elastic layer 18, and guide rollers 19, 20, 21, 22. The pressure exerted by the roller 17 is adjustable by a piston 23. The fabric is fed onto a guide plate 24, between rollers 25, fixed completely in a short loop-type baking machine 26 and delivered between rollers 27.
