Abstract

[Also in Divisions A5, C3 and D2] Building materials, e.g. sand/cement mixtures and plaster compositions are rendered water repellant by treatment with an aqueous dispersion of a polyorganosilicon composition prepared by first hydrolysing at least one hydrocarbon substituted organosilicon compound containing at least two Si-bonded chlorine atoms. The resultant hydrolysis product is first separated from by-product HCl and then combined with Ca(OH) 2 to give an aqueous dispersion or paste. Examples relate to the preparation of cement/sand and " Sirapite " (Registered Trade Mark) plaster building blocks incorporating small quantities, e.g. 1.5% by wt. of solids, of the organosilicon composition.
