Abstract

1,132,996. Steering articulated vehicles. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. 3 March, 1966 [28 April, 1965], No. 9325/66. Heading B7H. In steering mechanism for an articulated tractor-trailer vehicle, the fulcrum points 33 of levers 22 connected between a steering arm 10 on the tractor and hydraulic rams 30 anchored on the trailer gooseneck 11 are pivotally connected to the gooseneck 11 by links 28, whereby a more uniform mechanical advantage is obtainable through a steering range of 90 degrees in either direction. The angle between the arms of each lever 22 is greater than 90 degrees and may be 130 degrees. The arm of each lever 22 connected to the respective cylinder 30 makes an angle with the cylinder axis which is greater than 90 degrees in the straightahead position and falls to 90 degrees at maximum deflection.
