An optical window of high radiant energy transmission for pressure tanks and simulation chambers, comprises a quartz plate, the thickness of which is as small as possible in order to reduce the absorption of ultraviolet and infrared radiation, the plate being reinforced by means of a cellular frame connected thereto. The cellular frame takes the form of a perforated quartz plate which is fused to the window plate. The perforated plate may be opaque and a metallic reflecting layer may be applied to the walls of the perforations in the plate. The window plate may be coated with a filter layer which absorbs undesired wavelengths. Lens-like thickenings may be formed on the window plate in the area of the apertures in the frame plate.
