Abstract
1,132,733. Photo-electric smoke detectors. D.C. ADAMS. Feb.18, 1966 [Feb.18, 1965], No.7123/65. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G4] A fire detecting system employs a transistor as a temperature sensitive transducer. Transistor T1, Fig. 2, is in thermal contact with a metal casing, and change in temperature varies its collector current, causing relay RL1 to operate completing the circuit to local lamp 14 and relay RL2. In a modification, Fig. 3 a smoke detector comprising photo-sensitive transistor T4 associated with a lamp 20 may be employed in addition to heat detecting transistor T1, change in current in either actuating relay RL1. Actuation of relay RL2 in any one of a number of local circuits CCI, completes the circuits to a central station relay RL3 to sound an alarm siren over contact rl3/2. A further contact rl3/1 completes a circuit to a flasher relay RL4 whose contact rl4 causes the local lamp 14 to flash. The circuit may be tested by push buttons 15 in each local unit, a switch 19 in the central station being arranged to cancel the alarm 18 and connect these push buttons in circuit. The link to the central station may be by radio, a code transmitter being provided to indicate the calling station. The system may also be employed to control fire fighting means, such as a sprinkler system.
