Abstract

1,049,340. Temperature alarm systems. J. E. LINDBERG. Nov. 30, 1964, No. 48648/64. Heading G4N. [Also in Division G1] In a temperature alarm system comprising an elongated sensing element, e.g. of the type described in Specification 961,143, the element A, Fig. 4, is provided with an extension D, Fig. 3 (not shown), connected to a test circuit. The critical temperature of the extension D may be lower than that of the main element A. Alarm circuit.-Upon the sensing element A attaining its critical temperature, switch B closes, lighting lamps C and applying a firing pulse to SCR 60 which conducts to ring bell 64. If the audible alarm is cancelled by actuating switch 83, SCR 60 is cut off, and on reclosing switch 83 the bias on the SCR 60 is insufficient for it to restrike so that the bell circuit is not re-made although lamps 70 remain lit due to the persistence of the alarm condition. Other alarm circuits with their own visual alarms may be coupled to the SCR 60 so that the bell s unds whenever any sensing element attains its critical temperature. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the transformer 74 is omitted, the SCR 60 being triggered by the potential developed across a resistor in series with the lamp circuit. Test circuit.-In its simplest form, Fig. 3 (not shown), the circuit is tested by heating the extension D by means of a manually operated heater circuit until the alarm operates.
