Abstract
1,132,687. Boring earth &c. MOBIL OIL CORP. 6 June, 1967 [6 June, 1966], No. 26063/67. Heading E1F. Structural failure of a marine conductor 10 is prevented by injecting gas into the returning drilling mud within the conductor to lighten the effective weight of the mud. The gas, which is air or combustion gas according to whether the mud is aqueous or oil-based, is supplied to the conductor interior through manifolds 42. After discharge from the conductor the mud is treated in a cyclone 58 before reception in a mud tank 60. The conductor which is supported by guylines 30 has a universal joint 24, a slip joint 26, and a bouyancy tank (not shown).
