Abstract
113,264. Day, D. T., Macdonald, F., and Day, R. B. Feb. 2, 1917. [Convention date]. Hydrocarbons, cracking; spray evaporators:- Hydrocarbons are transformed into hydrocarbons of lower boiling-point by spraying them into hot gases of combustion substantially free from oxygen. The hydrocarbon is thus vaporized and subjected to a temperature of 700-3000‹ F. under pressures ranging up to 600 lb. per sq. in. The conversion is effected in a chamber 9, into which a mixture of hydrocarbon and steam is sprayed by a nozzle 11, and gases of combustion are led by a passage 8. The products are led to a condenser 16. The gases of combustion are generated in a separate chamber 1 fitted with a spraying- device 4 admitting oil or a mixture of oil and steam, an inlet 7 for air, and a pump 20 for generating the requisite pressure.
