Abstract

1,132,574. Cutting film material. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Dec., 1966 [19 Oct., 1965], No. 44306/65. Heading B4B. Apparatus for cutting or slitting film material 4 comprises an electron beam gun 5, and means for moving the material relative to the path of the beam 6 emitted from the gun. The material, which may be paper, thin plastics material or substrates, is unwound from a reel 2 and taken up on a reel 3. The material may be in the form of sheets coated with strips of deposited metal, the sheets being divided into strips by cutting along the bands of uncoated material. Slitting may be carried out by using multiple source beams.
