A filter with lamella stacks mounted on at least one filtrate collector, wherein the lamellae between each other and the lamella contacting the filtrate collector are orientated by interlocking elements at several places spaced in the longitudinal direction, is characterized in that at least the interlocking elements acting between the filtrate collector and lamellae adjacent to it are relatively movable in longitudinal direction in all places except one. As shown, a filtrate collector 1 of rectangular cross section has apertures 15, conical depressions 13, and V-section grooves 14. To each side is pressed (see below) an impervious but perforated plate, forming part of a stack 16. The plate has three conical projections which engage with the collector 1, and the reverse side of the plate has three conical depressions to engage in turn with a second plate, and so on. The stacks are secured by two bolts 19. Liquid flow is edgewise between the plates. Thus, where the plates are made of different material from the filtrate collector, differences in dimensions due to relative expansion or contraction are taken care of by engagement of plate projections with collector grooves. It is to ensure relatively-immovable conditions at the centre of the element that only conical depressions in collector 1 are provided there. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the provision of at least one depression and two or more grooves is repeated in the plates throughout the stack to permit greater freedom.
