Abstract

1,132,366. Vinyl acetate/ethylene/N-methylolacrylamide copolymer latex. AIR REDUCTION CO. Inc. 31 March, 1966 [31 March, 1965], No. 14359/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] A latex composition for bonding a loosely assembled web of fibres comprises an aqueous medium having colloidally suspended a copolymer of vinyl acetate, ethylene and N-methylol acrylamide which contains 5-40% by. wt. of ethylene. The particle size of the copolymer may be 0À1-2Á. The latex may be prepared by polymerizing the monomers in a mixture of water, a mixture of polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ethers, ferrous ammonium sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate, potassium persulphate and NaHSO 2 .CH 2 O.ZH 2 O; and the N-methylol acrylamide and potassium persulphate may be added incrementally. The latex may be neutralized with ammonia and the composition may also contain ammonium chloride.
