Abstract

1,132,364. Measuring speed photo-electrically. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS G. m. b. H. March 4, 1966 [March 24, 1965], No.9587/66. Heading GlA. [Also in Divisions G4 and H1] The speed of a hot metal strip 1 is measured by putting a hotter spot on the strip using a pulse laser 2 and detecting the hotter spot by its bluer radiation which passes through a filter 5 to a photo-electric cell 3. Clock pulses are gated to counter 11 between energization of the laser 2 and detection of the hotter spot by cell 3. Changes in strip speed may be detected using a further photo-electric cell and gate circuit and a bidirectional counter.
