Abstract
1,132,286. Observation devices. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 7 Sept., 1966 [7 Sept., 1965], No. 40017/66. Heading F4B. In an induction heated furnace having a crucible tapped by breaking a graphite closure at the base, the striker 22 is carried by a hollow shaft 25 doubly sealed to a vertical tube 21 by an oil seal and gasket, the tube 21 being connected to the furnace crown by a bellows 4, and the shaft 25 being reciprocated within the tube 21 by a motor through racks, a temperaturesensing device is mounted within the hollow striker 22, which may carry apertured discs to act as stirring members. The temperaturesensing device may be a pyrometer, the sight glass of which is mounted at the upper end of the shaft 25, the graphite striker 22 acting as a black body, or the hollow striker may accommodate a thermocouple.
