Abstract
1,131,802. Feeding fibres. HERGETH K.G. MASCHINENFABRIK UND APPARATEBAU. 25 Jan., 1966, No. 3402/66. Heading DIN. Fibres are fed to the feed shafts 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d of a number of fibre processing machines e.g. carding engines 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d by a first conveyor 3 and the surplus fibres on conveyor 3 at the end of its run are returned to the beginning by a second conveyor 15. The fibres are fed into conveyor 3 by a device 4. Each feed shaft e.g. (2a), Fig. 1, not shown, is provided with three fibre sensing flaps (7) each of which can actuate an air jet (11) to blow fibres from the conveyor into the appropriate part of shaft (2a) requiring fibres. At the end of conveyor 3 a jet 16 blows surplus fibres onto the returning conveyor 15 which normally moves at a slower speed than conveyor 3. A fork 20 is provided above conveyor 15 against which the surplus fibre accumulates until the fork is actuated to stop the fibre feed from device 4, bring the speed of conveyor 15 upto that of conveyor 3 and switch on an air jet 17 to transfer the fibres back onto conveyor 3. When the fibre is transferred the fork 20 returns to its original position and normal operation is resumed. In the embodiments of Figs. 4 and 5, not shown, the return conveyor is placed immediately below conveyor 3 but, at the end remote from feeding device 4 it extends beyond conveyor 3 so that surplus fibre falls off the end of conveyor 3 onto the lower conveyor to be returned. At the end of the return conveyor adjacent device 4 the fibres are blown off into a casing from which they are lifted by an elevator to be replaced on the conveyor 3. The elevator which is also fed by the device 4 has a number of different speeds and a speed is selected in response to the number of feeler flaps indicating a demand for fibre.. In the embodiment of Figs 6 to 8, not .shown, a single endless belt is provided, the upper run forming the feeding conveyor and the lower run the return conveyor, the surplus fibres being blown down a chute onto the lower level.
