Abstract
1,131,628. Purifying combustible gas. POWER-GAS CORP Ltd. 31 March, 1966, No. 14312/66. Heading C5E. Combustible gas from the catalytic steamreforming of hydrocarbons under pressure is purified, after passing through a carbon monoxide conversion stage by being contacted first with water containing CO 2 from a second water-contacting stage, and then, after a major portion of the cooled gas has been led off, by passing the rest of the gas through the second water-contacting stage to absorb CO 2 from the gas. The portion of cooled gas led off may be enriched with methane or vaporized liquefied petroleum gas to make town gas, and the H 2 -rich gas leaving the second watercontacting stage may be recycled to a hydrodesulphurization stage preceding the steam reformer. The water from the first contacting stage may be passed to a tower for regeneration with air, for recycling to the second stage. This stage may be superposed on the first stage, as in Fig. 1 (not shown), or may comprise separate vessels, Fig. 2 (not shown), a compressor sucking the minor gas portion to the second stage. A specific example is described.
