Abstract

1,130,961. Tank wagons. UNION TANK CAR CO. 7 Feb., 1966, No. 5229/66. Heading B7L. A railroad tank car comprises a tank 11, Figs. 1 and 3, mounted on a pair of combined draft rigging and bolster assemblies 13 conventionally linked to truck assemblies 14, the interior of the tank being provided with hopper structure 12 forming hopper compartments each comprising plate member end walls 25 or 25a and side walls 24, the invention consisting in the end-plate members 25a serving as reinforcing structure for the tank. Each plate member 25a is secured in angularly disposed relation to the inside of a respective end wall 22 of the tank and extends from a location approximately midway up the wall 22 to a location on the bottom inner surface of the tank, inwardly of the outer termination a saddle 18 forming part of the associated assembly 13. Adjacent walls 25 are secured together transversely of the tank and each hopper compartment has a subchamber 32 connected with a discharge pipe 31. Reinforcing plates 28a, 28b extend along the bottom of the inside of the tank between base portions 16 of the assemblies 13.
