Abstract

113,089. Gray, H. F. Jan. 30, 1917, [Convention date]. Floors and the like, cleaning.-A machine for washing and scrubbing carpets in situ comprises a reservoir scrubbing-brush 7 having an eccentric motion, a combing-brush 45 for smoothing the nap, and a squeegee roller 44, mounted in a wide nozzle 43, the dirty liquid being removed by suction through the nozzle and a pipe 95 discharging into a tank 49. The brush 7 is carried by a forked member 32 mounted on a crank 17 driven from an electric motor 27 through reducing gear, and an extension 39 of the member 32 is connected to a link 41 pivoted to the machine frame. Cleansing-fluid is supplied to the brush 7 from a tank 36 through a pipe 34 and perforated branch 38, the supply being controlled by a hand-operated valve 75. The nozzle 43 in which the combing-brush and roller are mounted is vertically movable against the resistance of springs 53. In a modification, shown diagrammatically in Fig. 5, rinsing-liquid is supplied to a brush 63 at the rear of a squeegee roller 57 mounted in a suction nozzle 43 behind the scrubbing-brush, and a combing-brush 68 and squeegee 67 are mounted behind the rinsing-brush in a suction nozzle 66. The rinsing-brush is mounted in a similar manner to the scrubbing-brush 7.
