Abstract

1,130,745. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 2 Aug., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 34473/65. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre having a radial cord carcass of textile cords comprises a breaker layer of a vulcanized composition having a hardness of at least 70 (British Standard Specification No. 903, Pt A7, 1957) and formed of a blend of natural or synthetic rubber and a natural or synthetic resin or resinous material. Preferred examples given of the latter component are isotactic polypropylene and a phenolic resin. Other examples both of the rubber and resin are specified. Preferably there are at least two such breaker layers, reinforced either with parallel textile cords or with oriented staple fibres making up to 25 degrees with the circumferential direction and being cross-laid. The staple fibres should be in a proportion of from 27-60% by volume of the composition and be at least 0À5 inch in length, and may be of cotton, polyethylene terephthalate, rayon, nylon or glass. The breaker may additionally or alternatively include an unreinforced layer of the composition and possibly one or more layers formed of a composition having a hardness less than 70 and reinforced with textile cords making up to 25 degrees with the circumferential direction.
