Abstract

1,130,477. Boots &c. MEILLER RESEARCH Inc. 30 March, 1967 [19 Aug., 1966], No. 14521/67. Heading A3B. An orthopaedic shoe for correcting the position of the foot includes means for establishing a turning moment on the shoe to cause rotation thereof in response to ground engagement of the shoe under the weight of the wearer. As described a shoe 22 has a heel tread 24 having two sets 32, 34 of resilient ribs 36, 38. The ribs 36 are inclined so that when the wearer places his weight on the heel the ribs 36 flex and the shoe moves in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 3. The ribs 38 are inclined in the opposite direction so that the combined effect of the ribs 36, 38 is to exert a turning moment on the shoe and by arranging the inclination of the ribs in the appropriate direction the shoe can be used to correct toe-in or toe-out of the wearer. In a modification one set of ribs is positioned on the sole and the other on the heel. In a second embodiment the ribs are arranged radially in a circular pattern.
