Abstract

1,130,374. Rollers. FIELDEN ELECTRONICS Ltd. 9 Sept., 1966 [13 Sept., 1965], No. 38968/65. Heading F2U. [Also in Divisions B5, D1, G3 and H3] Heating apparatus for use in drawing or draw-twisting synthetic fibres comprises a roller 7 with electrical heating means 9, a shaft 4 fast with roller 7, a bearing housing 2 through which the shaft extends and a controller 19, 20, 21, 22 electrically connected to the heating means and supported on shaft 4 within housing 2 to regulate the temperature of the roller in response to signals from a temperature measuring means 8. A variable resistor is mounted on the cover 15 closing the end of the roller whereby the temperature of the roller may be adjusted. The controller comprises slip rings 19 for co-operating with brushes, not shown, a toroidal transformer 20, an electronic circuit assembly 21 and a mounting and heat sink 22 for two thyristors. The connections between the controller and the electrical component in the roller pass through slots 23 in shaft 4. Housing 2 is ventilated by a union 25 connected to a source of positive or negative pressure and an orifice 26.
