Abstract
113,032. Wallwin, J. W. March 30, 1917. Atmospheric gas burners.-In heating-burners, more particularly for metal hardening and tempering furnaces, in which gas and air are supplied under pressure through separate converging passages to the mixing-tube, one or more perforated cones are arranged in the mixing-tube with their apexes towards the burner mouth. The sides of the cones are preferably inclined at an angle of 35 degrees to the sides of the mixing- tube. The holes in the cones may be larger towards the apexes of the cones, and the total area of the holes is greater than the outlet of the burner head. The gas-supply pipe b may be provided with a perforated grid, and the air-supply pipe c may be provided with a perforated grid or with a small-bore longitudinally-adjustable pipe c<1> projecting into the mixing-tube a. The cones e may be arranged one partly within the other with their perforations e<1> in staggered relationship, a square stud e<2> on one cone engaging a corresponding recess in an adjacent cone. Two perforated cones may be arranged with the apexes in contact. The burner may be provided with two gas-supply pipes b so that either coal gas or producer gas may be employed.
