Abstract

1,129,969. Rolling tubes; jointing. MANNESMANN-MEER A.G. 26 Jan., 1966 [23 Sept., 1965; 16 Nov., 1965], No. 3446/66. Headings B3M and B3V. In a cold tube rolling machine of the type having a reciprocating saddle 3 with a pair of oscillating rollers fitted with dies 4 and having circumferential tapering grooves in which the tube is fed in a direction parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the saddle and which is reduced in diameter by the pressure of the dies, there is provided an inertia compensating means 1 for balancing the inertia of the saddle and the length of the groove in each die is more than 220 degrees, the annular dies 4 being shrunk on to the rollers and prevented from rotating by keys 13 fitting in radial recesses. In a multi-die roller, Fig. 3 (not shown), the keys are fitted into radial recesses in each of the dies (4) and into recesses in the spacing rings (11) lying between the dies. To remove the dies from the roller, after removal from the saddle, the end pinion is removed and the roller is hung up in a vertical position in an induction furnace, the dies being caused to expand by heating the roller while in a vertical position.
