1,129,680. Feeding needles. W. A. SHIELDS. 11 April, 1967, No. 16625/67. Headings B8A and B8S. Needles in hopper 20 fall past adjustable gate 25 and are then discharged in the recesses 37 of rotating wheel 32 which carries them round and down past guides 45 to deliver them singly at the lowermost point to jaws 57-58. Hopper 20 (Fig. 2).-The sidewall of the hopper 20 is adjustable laterally by bolts 29 working in slots 30 to permit the use of needles of differing lengths. Hopper 20 is adjustable at 21 to fixed support 22. Jaws 57-58 (Fig. 5).-Jaws 57-58 are carried by unit 64, 66, 68 so that, as slide 68 reciprocates lengthwise the jaws 57-58 are likewise reciprocated and turn with stub 64, being rotated by the engagement of projection 77 thereon with a fixed element on the frame. Also pin 93 on jaw 58 engages an oscillating plate to open and close the jaws. In this way, the jaws 57-58 grip the needle, in a horizontal position and, with a reciprocating and rotating movement, deliver it in a vertical position or orientation to a mandrel 85 (not shown).
