Abstract

1,129,662. Valves. C. E. BELL. 21 Dec., 1965 [21 Sept., 1964], No. 38345/64. Heading F2V. A closure for stopping-off or sectioning-off of a duct or culvert containing liquids or gases comprises a carrier, forming the periphery of or secured to the periphery of a sliding gate and an inflatable tube, extending along the length of the carrier which, when inflated, forms a seal with a juxtaposed sealing surface of the duct. As shown, the carrier 7 is U-shaped with nylon cleats 10 secured to the carrier to retain the tube 9. When the tube is inflated, the cleats deform. In a modification, the carrier is C- shaped to retain the tube. The tube may be clamped to the carrier at one end with the other end overlapping to allow for a reduction in the length of the tube when it is inflated. The ends may be parallel within or leading from the gate and various forms of sealing plugs are described for the insertion between the overlap.
