1,129,601. Continuous casting. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 7 Dec., 1965 [6 Oct., 1964; 15 Dec., 1964; 4 June, 1965], Nos. 40750/64, 50970/64 and 23858/65. Heading B3F. In a rotary-drum and endless-belt machine for continuous casting, having belt, guiding rollers 22-25 and, where the steel belt 21 passes round the drum 12, a belt-backing support 38, grooves (35, 41) for the flow of cooling water are formed (1) in the surface of the roller 22 which passes the belt directly to the drum where the melt is poured, (2) in the concave surface 40 of the support 38 and (3) in the surface of the drum 12 on which a steel sleeve (45) is placed to form a mould surface. The meltcontacting surfaces of the belt and drum are coated with zirconia or alumina as insulation and an outer graphitic spray coating to aid separation. The guide roller 23 is adjustable by a cylinder 26 to tension the belt.
