Abstract
1,129,110. Carbon disulphide production. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 5 April, 1966 [23 April, 1965], No. 15083/66. Heading C1A. Carbon disulphide is prepared by reacting trithiane (cyclic trimeric thioformaldehyde) and molten sulphur at 180‹ and 250‹ C. and separating the components of the mixture of CS 2 and H 2 S formed. The H 2 S may be converted to CS 2 by known processes. The process may be run at pressures up to 10 atmospheres in batch processes, or in a continuous process at normal pressures, in which sulphur and trithiane are heated in a reaction vessel and passed into a gas scrubber, where the trithiane reacts with molten sulphur under counter-current flow conditions.
