Abstract
1,128,814. Electrostatic precipitators. LODGE-COTTRELL Ltd. 5 May, 1966 [13 May, 1965; 11 Sept, 1965], Nos. 20222/65 and 38896/65. Heading B2J. An electrostatic precipitator comprises a plurality of connector body portions 22, Fig. 5, each supported on a plurality of columns 24 integral therewith, adjacent 'body portions being connected by an expansion joint 34, Fig. 2. Five concrete columns 28 of streamline section extend inside the body portion 22 as far as its upper wall 30. The expansion joint 34 comprises brackets 36, Fig. 7, keyed at 44, Fig. 6, to opposed wall portions 38 of the body portions. An endless strip 46 of siliconised glass-fibre cloth extends along and between the arms 41 of the brackets 36, a central portion being of convex cross-section and secured to the brackets by metal strips 48 and nuts 45, 50. A metal cover 54 is bolted to a surface 59 of one wall portion 38 which faces outwardly. In further embodiments, separate inlet and outlet mouthpieces are provided for each body portion; or the body portions may be of differing width, or e.g. three body portions may be provided in a straight line. A further wall may be provided in one body portion adjacent the expansion joint to permit isolation of each body portion for periodical maintenance.
