Abstract
1,128,732. Cam mechanism; toothed gearing. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 June, 1966 [26 March, 1965], No. 13049/65. Headings F2K and F2Q. In apparatus for conversion of electrical pulses into a stepwise rotary motion including an electromagnetic actuator and a mechanical converter, the converter comprises a member 13, Fig. 2, coupled to the actuator for axial displacement and having teeth 21, located between fixed teeth 22, with inclined ends engaging complementary ends of teeth 23 on an annular driven member 15. In response to a pulse through the actuator, the teeth 21 move the member 15 axially, against the bias of a spring 24, until the teeth 23 can clear the ends of the fixed teeth 22, the action of spring 24 then causing the teeth 23 to slide along the ends of the teeth 22, thereby effecting rotation of member 15 through one step. Teeth 23 also have inclined surfaces 25, Fig. 4, which engage complementary surfaces 26 on teeth 21 to return the latter to their original positions. The drive is transmitted from member 15 to a shaft 19 through gearing 16, 17 and a spring clutch 18. An eccentric hub 29 is splined to shaft 19 and carries a toothed wheel 28 whose teeth are adapted to engage pins 30 on an output gear 20. The number of spaces between pins 30 is one ess than the number of teeth on the wheel 28. Rotation of wheel 28 is prevented by the engagement of a peg thereon with a slot in a plate 31 which is slidable at right-angles thereto.
