Abstract
1,128,725. Rotary perforating devices. W. F. HUCK. 1 June, 1967 [1 June, 1966], No. 25287/67. Heading B4B. A rotary perforating device comprises coacting cylinders 13, 14, the cylinder 13 having perforating pins 57a, 57b and 57c projecting radially therefrom in groups corresponding to desired patterns of perforations, the pins 57a and 57b of some of the groups being longer than the pins 57c of others of the groups, the cylinder 14 having die'holes 60 capable of receiving all the pins during rotation of the cylinders, and means to displace the cylinder 13 radially relative to the cylinder 14 to two positions in one of which all the pins are received in die holes 60, as in Fig. (not shown), to perforate a pattern in a web W passing between the cylinders and in the other of which only the longer pins are received in the die holes, as in Fig. 8 (not shown), and a different pattern is perforated in the web. The journals 37 of the cylinder 13 are rotatably mounted in bearings 38 carried by eccentric bearing housings 39 which are operatively connected to forked couplings 48 carried by the piston rods 49 of fluid pressure cylinders 50. Disposed in the downward path of the couplings 48 are stop members 62, 63, Fig. 3, of different radial length extending from a selector shaft 61, one end of which has secured thereon a crank handle 64 which carries a spring-loaded locking pin 65 releasably engageable in one or other of two holes 66a and 66b formed in an adjacent frame member 12. The perforating pins are received in bores 55, Fig. 4, of plates 52 removably secured to the shell 35 of cylinder 13. The cylinder 14 comprises a shell 68 to which are removably secured segments 71 having bores 74, each segment having removably bonded thereto imperforate sheet material 75, e.g. thin steel, which is perforated by all the perforating pins, when the cylinders 13, 14 are rotated, to form the die holes 60. The web is removed from the pins after perforating by means of resilient pads 67 adhesively secured to the plates 52. Punchings are removed from windows 77 in cylinder 14 by means of air blasts from a series of parallel tubes 79, Fig. 2, connected to a source of compressed air, the tubes being supported by the side walls of a box 80, the interior of which is connected to a source of vacuum 83. The web to be perforated is led around cylinder 14 against which it is pressed by a roller 18 when pressure fluid is supplied to cylinders 23.
