Abstract

1,128,470. Resistance heating elements. MONSANTO CO. 1 Dec., 1965 [2 Dec., 1964], No. 50952/65. Heading H5H. An electrical resistance heating element, for use in an epitaxial deposition furnace, formed of carbonaceous resistance material comprises a leg having compensated resistance characteristics so that a substantially uniform temperature distribution is maintained throughout the effective length of the leg when the element is in use in the furnace. In the embodiments described the resistance is varied by varying the cross-sectional area of the leg. The two legs of the bridge element shown have transverse holes 8, 9 drilled at varying spacings. Holes 10 border a heat sink 11 which maintains a uniform temperature distribution along the bight 3. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the two legs of a bridge element have a thickness which tapers towards the ends.
