Hand-trucks.-The truck described in the parent Specification is improved by providing a toggle-device which locks the load platform 3 in the raised position and can be released in all positions of the turntable 8 by moving the propelling-handle 16 rearwards. To prevent the tension of the chain 12 that connects the platform to the handle from interfering with the free movement of the turntable 8, the mechanism may be so arranged that slack is formed in the chain when the platform is fully elevated. The toggle-device may comprise a pair of toggles each consisting of a link 32 pivoted at 35 to a member or bracket 15 on the underframe 1 and pivoted at 33 to a link 31 which is pivoted at 34 to the platform 3. The releasing-device consists of a segment 30 which is arranged under the ends 33<a> of the levers 31 and is secured to levers 26 pivoted on the bracket 10 on the turntable, pins 20 on the levers engaging the catches 24 for the chain-wheel 11. On depressing the bolt 18 and moving the handle rearwards, pins 38 on the bolt engage the catches and cause the sector 30 to rise and trip the toggles, thereby permitting the platform to fall. To permit of the platform being lifted in stages, the chain-wheel may be provided with a number of teeth 7 for engagement with the catches and the driving-projections 19 on the bolt 18. The rear teeth 7 may be arranged to pass in advance of the catches 24 when the platform is fully elevated so that, on releasing the handle, the chain is slackened.
