Abstract

112,812. Williams, R. Jan. 24, 1917. Splints; tension apparatus.- Arm or leg splints are provided with an elastic thrust-piece at the arm-pit or crutch. The arm splint comprises an upper inverted U-shaped member A, having a right or left arm bridge-piece A<4>, and hinged at points c, c' to a lower member B; the elastic thrust member D<2>, consisting of a piece of tub. ing, passes between ferrules D, D' carried by the upper member. By means of telescopic joints A<2>, B<2>, B<3>, the two members may be made to assume any desired relative angular position, and the lower member can be adjusted in length. A hand-grip G is secured by a bolt G<1> and a wire T-piece E is provided to receive an elastic band F, other transverse hooked supporting- b'ands II being provided as required. In the leg-splint, the elastic thrust-piece takes the form of a pneumatic tube J and the upper and lower members K, K<1> are connected to off-set hinges K<2> to give a stretching action as the leg is straightened. A foot-plate M and adjustable bracket N are provided, together with folding-supports L.
