Abstract

[Also in Division G2] The invention comprises p-sulphamidophenethyl - 1 - hydroxy - 2 - naphthamide compounds having the general formula in which R is an alkyl group, an aryl group which may be substituted or a heterocyclic nucleus. R may be, for example, a phenyl group, a p-dodecylphenyl group or a tetradecyl group. These compounds may be prepared by treating N-acetylphenethylamine with chlorosulphonic acid; condensing the p-chlorosulpho-N-acetylphenylethylamine with an amine of formula H 2 N-R; hydrolysing the acetyl group of the resulting sulphamido compound by treatment with caustic soda; and treating the resulting R-substituted sulphamido-phenethylamine compound with phenyl 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoate to give the required compound.
