Abstract

1,169,027. Azetidine derivatives. BEECHAM GROUP Ltd. 6 Dec., 1967 [19 Nov., 1966], No. 51917/66. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of Formula I and acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein R is H, aralkyl or alkyl each optionally substituted by an OH, acyloxy, amino, optionally substituted by alkyl or aralkyl groups, or guanidinoalkyl group; R 1 is halogen or OH and R 2 is halogen, OH, NH 2 or aralkylamino, or R 1 and R 2 together form -O-, provided that when R is H and R 2 is amino R 1 is not OH, are prepared (1) by ring closure by reaction with RNH 2 of a compound of Formula where X and Y are each halogen or alkyl or aryl sulphonyloxy; or (2) by reaction of an appropriate reagent AB with a compound of formula to give a compound of Formula I, where R 1 is BO and R 2 is A, an example of AB being a hydroxy halide; or (3) by cyclization of a compound of formula where Z is HSO 4 or X. Intermediates of Formula II are prepared by various methods. Pharmaceutical compositions, optionally in unit dosage form, comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefore.
