Abstract
1,127,854. Terminals; sleeve couplings; joining cables; terminating cables. AMP Inc. 27 June, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 29577/67. Heading H2E. A connector for a sheathed plastic cored electric cable comprises a conductive element 13 having a rigid first portion 20 inserted into core C of the cable and second portion 14 for connection to an electrical conductor, a housing 24 secured to the element 13 and receiving the cable end, and a retaining member 28 on the housing for sealing the portion 20 and the core C from the ambient atmosphere. The portion 20 may be tubular and may contain a compression spring (Fig. 11, not shown) or, one or more resilient fingers (Fig. 7, not shown). The retaining member may be a ferrule which, when crimped, compresses the cable sheath J and the housing 24 (Figs. 4, 13 and 15, not shown). The second portion 14 may also be tubular and may also have one or more resilient fingers (Fig. 14, not shown) and the first and second portions may be made from a common tube. Joints for two or three cables are described and illustrated. The housing 24 and sheath J may be made of polyethylene and the core C may be a sodium alloy.
