Abstract

[Also in Divisions C3 and C7] Aqueous storing compositions comprise, as binder, a copolymer obtained by solution polymerising at least one component from each of the groups: (a) styrene, vinyl acetate and methyl and ethyl acrylates and methacrylates, (b) alkyl acrylates and methacrylates having at least 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, (c) N-alkoxymethyl-acrylamides and-methacrylamides, (d) acrylic, methacrylic and itaconic acids, and optionally (e) 2-hydroxyethyl and 2-hydroxy-n-propyl acrylates and methacrylates; the copolymer being converted to watersoluble form by neutralising with a base, e.g. ammonia or an amine. The compositions may also include a water-miscible alcohol or etheralcohol and a pigment. e.g. titanium dioxide (rutile). The composition is applied to a substrate by conventional means, e.g. dipping, spraying or brushing, and stoving is generally effected at 120‹-160‹C. In an Example, the substrate is a metal panel.
