An indexable turret-head may be clamped in any position or in one of four particular positions by a handle 9, initial and continued movements of which in one direction respectively unclamp and index the turret body 1 while return movement of the handle to its initial position clamps the turret body in its new position. A central rotatable spindle 7 which receives rotary motion from the handle 9 via a cap 8 splined to the spindle 7, is threaded both to a stationary spigot 2 around which the turret body may be indexed and to a clamping bush 11, the action of the threaded portions being such that on suitably directed rotation pressure is exerted on the clamping bush 11 and through needle bearings 11a to a bush 22 fixed to the turret body 1 to clamp the latter to a base-plate, not shown. The turret body 1 is additionally locked in any of four index positions by a spring-pressed pin 5 which engages corresponding holes 4 in a flange of the spigot 2. The spindle 7 has, splined thereto, a pawl ring 12 with upper and lower pawls 14, 13. The lower pawl acts to rotate a cam ring 15 which by means of a roller follower 18 and actuating member 19 lifts the pin 5, during the initial movement of the handle, out of the hole 4. Upper pawl 14 then engages the bush 22 to index the turret body 1. After 90 degrees rotation of the turret body 1 the roller follower 18 drops into a fresh slot in the cam ring 15 allowing the pin 5 to enter a fresh hole. Handle 9 is then returned to its initial position. Rotary movement of spindle 7 and the handle 9 are limited by a stop member 10, e.g. to 120 degrees.
