Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A sequence control for controlling a plurality of functions on a working machine has a plurality of stages and includes data signal means, indicating the completion of each stage of a normal programme, electrically controlled machine functions means which can be started and stopped by command signals and switch means connecting the data means and function means operable in response to coincidence between a completed programme stage and the conditioning of a subsequent stage to condition the sequence control for a command signal to be derived therefrom, in which an auxiliary switch means renders ineffective the conditioning of the sequence control and derives an alternative command signal deviating from the normal programme. As shown, Fig.1, a plurality of sensing signal output terminals A1-S25 are connected to a binaryto-decimal converter BIN/DEC which has outputs to terminals 101-126, of a sequence control plugboard unit 112, which are inter-connected in accordance with a programme chart, to issue commands to the operating elements of a press. The start commands, from output terminals h 1 - h 9 , and the stop commands from terminals h 11 - h 19 , are fed to relays RC1-RC9 having contacts controlling the distribution of press commands through lines H 1 -H 9 . Data signals from the press on a line B6, through a test network T and line y, activate an impulse network IMP which progressively switches a flipflop arrangement FL connected to the converter BIN/DEC. An output 27 from a circuit breaker CRBR, which is switched on at start and falls out when a fault occurs, is connected through terminals 127,128 of the plugboard unit M2 and a line f to the converter BIN/DEC to render that decimal line operative which at each movement corresponds to the binary coding of the arrangement FL. Terminals 170-176 of the unit M2 are connected with a bi-stable network ME 1 , comprising switches 10'u, 10'c, which operates as a memory, whereby a programmed data signal is stored and subsequently fed to the line y. An electronic circuit SD further provides a memory function by supplying a positive signal to a terminal 178 when there is no input from a terminal 177. A bi-stable jump network JU, in response to a signal from the unit M2 on a line 160, renders a predetermined line effective in the converter BIN/DEC by connecting a jump output 179, through a decimal-to-binary converter DEC/BIN, to the flip-flop arrangement FL. An alternative programme under manual control is provided from a box APB, Fig. 5, by which a new strip is fed into the press. The opening of the box changes over a switch 19' causing, through the connection B6, the test network TE to inhibit the operation of the impulse network IMP and to render push-button switches S1, S2 effective to control relays RC3, RC7 through lines h3, h7, h13, h17. The inhibiting of the impulse network IMP and manual control of an auxiliary programme can also be effected by switches within the test network, Fig.11 (not shown).
