Abstract

1,126,856. Forming capsules. KEUFFEL & ESSER CO. 4 March, 1966 [5 March, 1965], No. 9698/66. Heading B8C. Microcapsules containing a water-immiscible core material in solid or liquid form are made by preparing an aqueous solution of heat-coagulatable shell-forming polymer, adding the core material to the solution and dispersing it therein by agitation, and then heating the mixture to coagulate the polymer around the particles of core material. The shell-forming polymer may be a natural colloid such as egg or blood albumin. Suitable core materials include solutions of dyes in oil. A silicone anti-foaming agent may be added to the albumin solution. Heat to produce coagulation may be applied, for example, by means of a hot plate, infra-red lamp or by the addition of hot water to the agitated mixture.
