1,126,471. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. LUDLOW CORP. 21 Sept., 1965 [21 Sept., 1964; 25 June, 1965], No. 40224/65. Heading B5K. [Also in Division D1] The disclosure includes substantially the same subject-matter as Specification 1,124,481 (see Division D1) but the claims relate to the seaming of two non-woven fabrics side-by-side, by forming the two narrower non-woven webs with a fibre content of at least 25% of a thermoplastic polymer fibre uniformly distributed therethrough and each feathered along one edge, overlapping the feathered edges and hotcalendering one surface of the combined web, thus splicing the two webs and simultaneously smoothing, compacting and densifying the fibre content and fusing the thermoplastic polymer at the surface into a loose matrix, while leaving the balance of the fibres in the web in a relatively expanded unbonded state. The physical properties are then substantially the same in the area of the splice as in the remainder of the web.
