Abstract

[Also in Division D1] Cork is sterilized by sealing in a plastic bag and heating by induction, e.g. at a frequency of 2400 megacycles/sec. The cork may be first coated with synthetic resin and/or wax; or heated together with an amount of water just sufficient to saturate the cooled cork product. The water may be in the form of a 2% aqueous sodium benzoate preservative solution. The cork may be in the form of bottle corks or cork gaskets.
